TAHA F. MARHABA, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE
Dr. Marhaba is Professor and Chairman of the John A. Reif, Jr. Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in the
U.S.A.
. Today, the department is among the largest in theU.S.A.in size and the number of graduates, annually. Dr. Marhabaearned a Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Rutgers University, whose alumni engineering society awarded him the “Distinguished Engineer Award” for achievements that have contributed significantly to the national economy, security, public welfare, the quality of life, to the solution, and advancement of a specific technical need in engineering. Dr. Marhaba is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), an American Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Program Evaluator and a licensedProfessional Engineerin the U.S.A. with over 25-years of experience that has proved critical for advancing his department’s collaborations with industry and the development educational and research programs that are in-line with the current and emerging needs of the engineering industry. During his tenure as Chairman since 2009, he increased research expenditures five-folds, increased student enrollments, enhanced educational programs, advanced academic and research infrastructure, which reflected in significant improvements to key performance indicators. Today, the civil engineering program ranks in the top 5% nationally byCollege Factual, mainly based on student outcomes. As principal investigator of numerous research grants, he supported several post-doctoral research associates, twelve doctoral students, numerous undergraduate and master’s students. He has conducted fundamental and applied research in various areas of civil and environmental engineering, specifically water quality, treatment, and environmental/transportation systems and management. His work is published in numerous peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Marhaba sits on the State of New Jersey Water Supply Advisory Council responsible for the state water supply master plan.
